Champaign County YMCA Receives $5 Million Gift Toward New Facility Rick Stephens and his wife, Jeanene, have presented the Champaign County YMCA with a $5 million dollar gift as a way to kickstart the fundraising campaign toward constructing a new facility in southwest Champaign.
Jeanene Stephens said, "The Y has great programs now, but it needs great facilities."
The new facility, located near the Curtis Road interstate exchange, would replace the existing two YMCA facilities and would also house Larkin's Place. The partnership between Larkin's Place and the Champaign County YMCA began in 2008. The Champaign County YMCA and Larkin’s Place at the Y merged to create the nation’s first all-inclusive community recreation center, where all are treated as equals regardless of age, ability, or financial status.
